This is the second time this has happened - raising the speed limit because people were already going over it.

The first time, it was for the interstates - people were already driving 70, 75, and 80MPH.

Now it's 2 lane roads and the governor is "proud" to have signed it". I'll remember that when someone I love dies as a result, Governor.

Welcome to Iowa, the state that legalizes whatever residents are already doing illegally. This is the second time they have done this "because people were already driving over the speed limit".  

Used to be "55's a friend" and "55, arrive alive" - now it's "Let's speed and they'll increase the speed limit - so that extra moment of reaction you could use to prevent an accident? It's not there any more. You have less response time, increased likelihood that you're going to hit someone or spin out on a curve. And you're going to burn more gas going faster. Imagine legalizing theft and murder because people are already doing it. Or drunk driving.

Or cheating on taxes. Let's legalize all of it because people are already breaking the law. I'm being sarcastic - but that is the reasoning they use to raise the speed limit. What happens when someone doesn't have that extra second of reaction time that would have saved someone's life? That 5 miles an hour could make a huge difference in reaction time. 
For those that want to go 60, you need to stop and think that arriving alive is more important than your extra 5mph. Slow it down. Enjoy the trip more. Patience is a virtue. It's not worth costing someone their life.  https://www.facebook.com/reel/950679784593108

If it's legal, however, like purchasing diet soda with SNAP, they'll make it illegal. Nevermind that diet soda never made anyone fat and tea and coffee are allowed. They say those are healthy because they have anti- oxidants in them. You know what the anti-oxidant is? Caffeine. So if you're drinking diet soda with caffeine in it, it's just as healthy as coffee and tea. 

They punish law abiding citizens for what criminals do with their guns by implementing more restrictive gun laws.

They punish pain patients for what addicts do with their drugs by torturing them - depriving them of necessary pain meds.

They punish sinus patients and IBS-D patients for what addicts do with those meds by restricting the amount of meds they can get and putting them behind the counter.. 

They punish all SNAP recipients for what the obese do with their SNAP, claiming it will make everyone else healthy (it won't - what they're doing to people on SNAP will have no effect on people who aren't.) 

 

But they reward those who break the law and speed by increasing the speed limit. These are REPUBLICANS. They did this with no foresight. It's going to cost nearly a million dollars to replace all those 55mph speed limit signs. How many lives is it going to cost us? Fatalities went up when they increased the speed limit on Iowa interstates. Will the governor be proud she signed that bill then?
