USDA SNAP waivers contradict congressional intent
They contradict the Constitution as well. Nowhere does it say "you have the right to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness - UNLESS YOU'RE ON FOOD STAMPS." The law must apply equally to all. They cannot take a class of people on assistance and say "You don't have the same freedoms everyone else has." The Constitution applies to all equally under the law - not just some. The intent of the SNAP program was to provide freedom - not control of our diets. It was never meant to serve as a dietary control. It was meant to expand access to food, never restrict choices. They don't do this with industries they provide assistance/grants to. Can you imagine a company not having cocktail parties to draw customers? Eh? Btw, Congress has already rejected dietary restrictions, and done so numerous times.
Why is it that conservatives understand they shouldn't punish law abiding citizens for what criminals do but they cannot seem to grasp the same idea when it comes to SNAP? 39 Iowa Republicans want to go even further, preventing the use of SNAP for fresh meat, spices (including salt), white rice, white bread, etc. REPUBLICANS. Mind you I AM A CONSERVATIVE. These 39 Republicans have gone beyond conservatism to dictators who don't give a **** about people's health or dietary needs. Not everyone can eat beans and brown rice. They've lost their minds and blame the poor for everything while spending continues. YES on a local level, they are spending like there's no tomorrow. There is much to be said about Republicans caring about the unborn, but they don't seem to be concerned about what happens to people after they're born. President Trump has shamed the Constitution with this action against SNAP. He acted against individual freedoms. Congress already rejected dietary restrictions on numerous occasions. These waivers cannot be allowed to stand.
